If you read my first blog post (here) you will know that our upcoming year long travelling adventure will be my first experience of long term travelling. Not only that, but it will be my first time travelling on a tight budget. Continue reading “My First Ever Camping Trip”
Our Trip to Iceland – Part 4
And so we reach Part 4 of our journey across the land of Fire and Ice. Our last day in Iceland was an eventful one but if you’re joining the party late and would like to start the story from the beginning, you can find Part 1 here.
Our final day started early. We had a lot of ground to cover and a whole city to see, so once an obscenely large bucket of Skyr had been consumed, we were out the door and on our way. Continue reading “Our Trip to Iceland – Part 4”
Our Trip to Iceland – Part 3
So we’re on to part 3 of our Icelandic escapades, if this is the first that you’re reading about it – Where the hell have you been?! Thankfully, you can find Part 1 here and Part 2 here, if you need to catch up.
We pick up our tale at the start of the third day. It was grey and overcast but no heavy rain was forecast. This was great news as today would be one of driving out to various points of interest and then wandering around them, taking as many pictures as possible. Our trip to Iceland – Part 2
This is (as the title so subtly suggested) part two of a multi-part post about our trip to the singular country of Iceland. If you’ve missed part 1, you can find it here.
We woke the next morning to a stunning view across the city of Reykjavik. Its low-rise, colourfully roofed buildings were bathed in golden sunshine and framed by the Esja mountain to the North, it looked the quintessential Scandinavian city. Patches of grey cloud moved quickly across the sky, each propped up by a partial rainbow as the sunlight was scattered by the droplets of rain that fell beneath them. Preparations
In September last year, after an extremely busy summer of work, Cath and I decided that we needed a break. We’d discussed several possible destinations and debated the type of holiday that would best refresh our depleted batteries. Continue reading “Our trip to Iceland – Part 1”
Iceland – Why no one goes there and why you definitely should
Iceland, home of the ash cloud and favoured destination of Mums everywhere, has long been an unfulfilled bucket-list location for would be visitors the world over. It’s got it all – active volcanoes, the northern lights, even a giant pool of geothermally heated, skin purifying sea water… with a bar!
There are a couple of factors though, that prevent it being completely overrun with fat, garishly dressed, camera-toting tourists – and this is something for which we should all be very thankful. Continue reading “Iceland – Why no one goes there and why you definitely should”
Compromise
Once we made the decision to go travelling, Pete and I started looking at other blogs online for tips on planning, budgeting and not murdering each other along the way. One of the reoccurring themes for avoiding homicidal outbursts was the ability to compromise. As anybody who knows me will attest to, I am quite stubborn and do not concede easily so I thought a blog post exploring the ideas we have for compromising whilst we travel would be fun. If nothing else, we can look back at this and laugh at our own naivety from our respective jail cells following the attempted murder trials. Continue reading “Compromise”
Axe Throwing in Birmingham
I think the best idea, before we go gallivanting off around the globe and more crucially before we start writing about it, is for us to get some practice in. I know this is ultimately a travel blog but it’s also partly about the journey (in a more X-factoresque sense) as we go from yammering keyboard monkeys to skilled typographical manipulators of the minds eye.
